Roma has been graced with some truly great players in the past. However few have the status of Roma legend. Ones that have done everything for the shirt, ones that have done everything for the Giallorossi. Here are some of Roma's greatest legends and will never be forgotten.



Bruno Conti - Roma's Greatest Legend

Bruno Conti - (1973 - 1990) A man that gave everything for Roma and still has Giallorossi blood running through his body. Bruno Conti was born in Nettuno a province of Rome. Conti played for Roma for an amazing 17 years from 1973 - 1990. Bruno was brought up through the Roma youth system. Conti would play an amazing 304 league apperances for Roma. Conti won many honours with Roma, most notably Roma's second scudetto in 1983 and the Coppa Italia four times. The year after, Bruno was unlucky not to add a Champions League trophy to his achievements. Roma lost on penalties to Liverpool.

Bruno would also taste International success with Italy, as Italy won the world cup in 1982. An tournment where Conti was said to be the best player fo the whole tournment. Even after retirement the man couldn't stay away from the club he loves.

He had a brief time as care-take manager when Del Neri left. Nowadays he is head of Roma's world class youth system. He was an model proffessional and a great player. He has earned the title, as Roma's greatest ever legend .


Roberto "Il Bomber" Pruzzo

Roberto Pruzzo - (1978 - 1988) Another great player to have worn the shirt of the Giallorossi. Roberto Pruzzo who was nicknamed "Il Bomber" He was born in Crocefieschi in the province of Genoa. He started his playing carrer at Genoa in 1973. He remainded there for 6 years before joining Roma. The fee cost then a record 3 billion lira. He then had an unforgettable 10 seasons in the capital, becoming a legend to all Giallorossi in 10 years. He became famous as one of the most prolific scoring Italian strikers there ever was. Pruzzo also went onto winning major honours with Roma. He won the scudetto in 1983 and he aso won 4 italian cup titles. He like Conti though, would suffer a heart breaking loss to Liverpool in the Champions League final, however he was the only Roma player to score in the game in normal time. Pruzzo scored an incredible 106 league goals in 240 games for Roma. He was the "Capocannoniere" three times in his carrer at Roma.

Even though he was one of Italy's most gifted player he only played 6 games for Italy and din't score in any of them. Roberto held the record of 106 goals scored for the club untill recently when Francesco Totti broke the record. Pruzzo would finish his carrer at Fioretina where he only played one season before retiring. Roberto Pruzzo put himself into the Roma history books by his passion for the shirt and his amazing scoring ability. 10 great years at the capital, it's no suprsie Romans still talk about him


Agostino Di Bartolomei (DiBa)

Agostino Di Bartolomei - (1972 - 1984) Another player who played with the likes of Conti and Pruzzo. Just like Totti and Conti, "DiBa" in which he was nicknamed was born in Roma. He grew up and went through the Roma youth sysem. He made his first Serie A apperence for Roma in the 1972-73 season, however later he would go on loan for one season to Vincenza. However in 1976 Agostino burst onto the seen and quickly became a indispensible player for the Giallorossi. His skill as a midfielder with excellent vision and great technical ability and not to mention the ability to bag a few goals, he became the undoubted leader of Roma. After Nil Liedholm took control of Roma he became one of the Roma's greatest ever Captains, leading by example and always doing all he could for the shirt he loved. He like Conti and Pruzzo would win the scudetto in 1983 and win 3 coppa italia titles. However he would suffer missng out on lifting the Champions League trophy in which was his last game for Roma.

 He joined Milan with Nil Liedholm, although "DiBa" never wanted to leave Roma, fans were schocked when Roma board and Roma coach who was then Sven Goran Erikson agreed to sell him to Milan, there were was even protests. However "DiBa" would never return to his best when he left Roma, after spells with Milan, Cesena and Salernitana he hung up his boots. After retirement, Roma fans heard the worst possible news in 1994. Di Bartelomei who suffered from clinical depression commited sucide in his house. One of the most loved players is still mourned today. One fo Roma's greatest ever legends, it was a privilege for Roma fans and himself to wear the Roma shirt with such dedication. He will always be remembered


Francesco Totti - A man on the journey to Eternity

Francesco Totti - (1993 - to present) Like Conti, he was a born and bred in Roma. He made his way up through the Roma ranks and eventually made it into the first team. Totti as a child always kicking a ball, while other children watched cartoons. Francesco watched Roma in the stands as a kid, and always dreamed for playing for his favourate club Roma.

He finally got his chance and joined Roma's youth system. Totti was just 16 when he made his first team apperance for Roma. It was in 1993 it was a 3 - 1 away victory to Brescia. Over the years Totti assured his starting place with some real quality performances. He was named Italian players of the year in 2000 and 2003. By this time Francesco had already shown he had everything to be able to be "Il Capitano" for Roma. He lead Roma to their 3rd Scudetto in 2001, he scored 13 goals himself that season.

Totti has always been one of Roma's most consistent goal scorers, almost certain every season to get into double digits. With his best season in 2003-2004 where he scored 20 goals. Francesco Totti is also the major play maker of Roma, he make things happen and has created countless assists each season. Il Capitano leads by example, and still continues to do so to this day. Totti achieved history in the 2004-2005 season when Totti broke Roma's goal scoring record with 107 goals which was earliar held by Roberto Pruzzo. Totti had acheived his personal best of 26 goals winning the European Golden Boot, the following season was not so succesfull however due to injury.

Totti like Conti would acheive the greatest honour in International football. He would win the world cup in 2006, he played a good world cup and scoring a crucial penalty against Austrailla to send Italy through.

If there is going to be someone who arrivals Conti's popularity its Francsco Totti. He is the most loved man in Rome, he has shown countless times he loves Roma. He has had options to go to bigger teams, but the man is a Roman and just like Conti will do anything for the shirt. Totti continues to be the man at Roma and will be so for many years to come. He is the symbol of Rome and is well on the journey to be Roma's greatest ever legend.
