Bordeuax 1 - 3 Roma

Franco Sensi - 1926 - 2008

-

Roma president Franco Sensi sadly passed away on he 17 August 2008, his death brought an end to a glorious reign as Roma president. Franco oversaw one of the most succesfull periods in Roma history. Under his reign Roma caputed 2 Coppa Italia trophies, 2 SupperCoppa Italia trophies, an historic 11 game winning streak and of course the most memorable of them all, the Scudetto in 2001.

Born and bred in Rome, where he lived throughout his entire life was already an accomplished business man by the time he became president of AS Roma. The Oil Tycoon came with a huge amount of wealth and changed Roma back into the force it once was. After hated city rivals won the Scudetto in 2000, Sensi splashed out the cash on players such as Samuel, Emerson and Montella among others to turn Roma into a side capable of capturing the Scudetto. Roma did just that, Cappello's side lead from start to finish caping off an fantastic season for the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma beat Parma on the last day of the season 3-1.

It wasn't all good for Sensi's Roma, despite Roma success they failed to continue the success in the next couple of seasons. This left Roma behind it's rivals and in 2004 it was estimated that Sensi's Roma had around €300mln debt. Sensi to ease this debt sold his own assets, which was succesfull and Roma can once again invest in the transfer market.

An man with a short temper, din't make too many friends in Italy. His public fights with Milan boss Gialliani was the most famous, which the Roma fans certainly will not forget.

-

"Everytime I was with him it was great, the most I remember is his happiness when we won the Scudetto" Totti's words after the death of Franco Sensi. "Franco was like a father to me" was Aquilaini's words after his death.

-

The whole of Rome moarned his death as in someway Roma had lost something very special. No one is perfect and Sensi wasn't either. However his dedication and his passion to Roma was something we will never forget. Without him Roma would not be in the position they are today. This is simply a tribute to a great man who had a wonderful life. All we want to say is thanks for the memories.
