I guess there is only one place to start, the Colloseum. The most ironic monument in the world, of course a must for everyone to see. The Colloseum is easily connected to the subway (see below for more info on subway in Rome) with an immediate view of the masterpeice. Que's are usually long, but tickets can be purchased in advance. However early morning or late afternoon are the que's usually not aslong. The Colloseo stop is closet to the Colloseum. The Colloseum opens at 9am and shuts one hour before sunset. European citizens under the age of 25 can go in for half price. For more information on ticket prices and times, you can go to the offical website here. http://www.pierreci.it

Advised to study abit before you go so you know what you are looking at ! You can even visit Cesar's tomb and various other emperor's houses ! Foro Romano is not unfortunately free anymore and tickets have to be purchased at the Colloseum. However the ticket is valid for both the Colloseum and the foro romano. Depending in the season, the foro romano closes around 6 or 7pm, one is advised to check before hand. The Colloseo stop is the closet.

The vatican, it goes without saying another not to be missed in Rome. The vatican has truly everything from the world famous sistine chapel to the huge vatican museums. To visit the chapel itself is free, however one must obey the rules of the vatican state (and they are strct) Arms and shoulders must be covered and no shorts are allowed. This is checked and if you are not up to standard you will be set back, not great if you have waited for an hour. The que's are the vatican are usually long, but once again early morning is you're best bet to beat the que's, obviously buying tickets in advance or a guide will also beat the Q's.
-
Visiting the vatican museums is also not to be missed and this is also the only way into the sistine chapel. Que's for the vatican museum have been traditionaly very long, however since 2008 they have gotten shorter. The museums open at 8.30am and close at 18.00pm, on every last Sunday of the month is the vatican museums open for free, however be prepaid to stay in a long Q. The cost per ticket is €14, for more information, check the offical website. Here. http://mv.vatican.va

Without a doubt one of the most beautiful monuments in Rome is the Trevi Fountain. It stands at a massive 25.9 meters high. The monument is located in the rione of Trevi. Great to see during the day even better at night. The Trevi is usually very crowded, but that doesn't spoil it. However any trip to the Trevi will be also involve been annoyed by street salesmen. Many will want to sell flowers, be advised not to buy any flowers. They will at first say it is for free then come back later demanding you to pay for it. The police are strict with this, so you would be advised not to buy from these men.
-
A great picture moment if you are on an romanitc holiday or with the family. Make sure you throw a coin in so you will come again. For best pictures of the Trevi would to go at night. People say Paris is Romantic at night, the Trevi Fountain matches that.

Monumento Vittorio Emanuele II is probably Rome's most underrated attractions. An outstanding sight at night or day. Depending on the time of the year there is the possibility that there is a museum inside the monument. You can usually walk up to the top of the monument, however due to recent building work this hasn't always been possible. Nevertheless fantastic sight.

Rome is served by two airports, Fiumicino and Ciampino. The latter been more associated with low cost airlines. Trains run from Fiumicino airport to the centre of Rome. More information visit the offical website. http://www.adr.it/ . Ciampino airport is conisderably closer to Rome than it's counterpart. Once you have arrived, the cheapest and best way to reach Rome is to get the bus to Anagina. Once at Anagina one can buy subway tickets and then go onto Termini (the main station in Rome). The price is very cheap and around €2. There are plenty of other ways to get to Rome, through luxury coaches etc. However be prepaid to pay over €15 just one way and don't expect to get into Rome any quicker then anyone else !
-
Rome is of course is easy to reach all around the world. Of course the "cheaper" airlines are in abdunace, but due rising fuel prices these are no longer cheap as they once were. Rome however is an experience worth living. As a normal tourist Rome is something special as a Romanista Rome is even better.
